One of the biggest problems facing our society is complacency. We've created a society so comfortable, so content, so self-righteous and so unwilling to carry its own weight that we're relying on a smaller and smaller number of people to keep the peace while simultaneously being completely oblivious to the things they're facing. There are bad people out there. Bad, bad, bad people. They don't care about your prayers. They don't care about the nice things you do for others. They don't care about your family. They just hate you. They hate you because you exist. And they want to kill you. We have people stopping it every day in this country. If they?re lucky, they'll be able to apprehend the evil in a civilized manner. If they're not, bad things are going to go down. Neither of these consequences are the result of the protector's decisions. He or she are merely the last stop before the violence bleeds into those who can?t or won't defend themselves. The onus of the danger falls on our policymakers and, let's face it, the people who put them in power. We need to always be ready for the worst. We can't rely on others to prevent the wolf from walking up to the door. Be the best person you can be. Be the best person you can be by being willing to meet violence with violence.
