Known as the "National Standard of Texas," the original Texas State Flag was approved by the President of the Texas Republic, Sam Houston, on December 10, 1836. The original flag (officially taken down on January 25, 1883) looked different than the Texas Flag we know today, offering a golden five-point star centered on an azure backdrop resembling the sky on a clear day. Senator William H. Wharton later introduced a bill on December 28, 1838 which describes the "Lone Star Flag," and the bill was approved just a month later by then Texas President, Mirabeau B Lamar. It is not officially known who designed the Lone Star Flag.
