The Gadsden Flag is traditionally flown by those who are in disagreement with government or in support of civil liberties. It has also been adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps as an early motto lag and a symbolism of American freedom. The Gadsden Flag was first flown in early 1776 by Commodore Esek Hopkins; the first commander-in-chief of the Continental Fleet. Today, the flag is flown by those who are passionate about American freedom, either on special occasions or throughout the year. The Gadsden Flag has been seen more after the September 11, 2001 terrorists attack, flown as a symbol of American freedom and liberty and often flown underneath the U.S. Flag.
