We're lucky. Of that, there can be no doubt. Most of us were born in the United States, the most powerful nation on the planet. We have abundant natural resources, oceans flanking our nation on both sides, and the most incredible commerce the world has ever seen. We cannot control where we are born, and I'm telling you that we won the birthplace lottery. If you don't realize that or think you'd have more opportunity elsewhere, you simply haven't seen the rest of the world. What we can control, however, is what we do with this opportunity and how we look at it. Our country did not just "occur". It was not just willed to us. Men and women have suffered, struggled, and died for generations to provide us the bountiful gift we have today. And we can do one of two things: we can bemoan our lot in life whilst criticizing every action our nation takes without considering context or the reality of life (but while we still enjoy all of the nation's abundance, opportunity, and freedoms) or we can pay homage to those who came before us, not by simply building statues or singing their praises, but by finding pride in their sacrifices and striving every day to match or surpass them. The American Way is hard work. It is fighting for what is right. It is never giving up. It is beating everyone else at anything we try because we want it the most, are willing to sacrifice the most, and absolutely refuse to accept anything other than victory. And to those that still prefer the complaining and whining, you don't have to buy our belief in America, but stay the hell out of our way unless you want to get trampled because the American Dream is not dying on our watch. We are American by Birth. We are Unapologetically American by Choice.
