The First American Volunteer Group, nicknamed the Flying Tigers, of the Chinese Air Force, was made up of Army Air Corps, Marine, and Naval pilots operating under the orders of the President of the United States to fend off Japanese aggression in China.

They first saw duty only 12 days after Pearl Harbor and were a bright spot in America's morale during a very dark time as their innovative tactics brought them many overwhelming victories. In nearly two years of battle, the Flying Tigers destroyed 296 enemy aircraft while only losing 14 pilots.
