Fighter Squadron stood up in 1943 with a parking lot full of P 38 Lightnings. They took their “Fork Tailed Devils” to Europe where they fulfilled both Combat Air Patrol and Close Air Support roles in France. They liked it so much that the squadron stayed for a minute as part of the US Air Forces in Europe occupation army. In 1952 hey took their F 84 Thunderjets to Korea and gave the Communists the old what for until the armistice took hold. They took F 111s to Viet Nam and F 16s to Singapore as a joint teach/train program for the RSAF.
They are currently shacked up at Mountain Home AFB with some pretty slick F 15 Strike Eagles.
