The Gathering of Eagles Foundation is honored to recognize United States Air National Guard Major Heather ‘Lucky’ Penney, as a 2020 Air & Space Power Legend. Maj Penney was one of the first female pilots to go directly into fighters from pilot training. She earned her wings at Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training and was assigned to the District of Columbia Air National Guard to fly the F-16C. On September 11, 2002, Maj Penney scrambled with an unarmed aircraft in defense of the National Capital Region. After flying the F-16 for ten years, including two combat deployments under Operation Iraqi Freedom, she flew the C-38 for six years in support of VIP Special Airlift Missions. She also served as the Director of T-50A and Aviation Training Systems at Lockheed Martin in Washington DC. Maj Heather Penney serves on the board of Directors of the Experimental Aircraft Association and is a Senior Resident Fellow at the AFA Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies where she conducts research for air and space power advocacy. The GOEF and RangerUp present this shirt in honor of Major Heather Penney and the legacy of the District of Columbia Air National Guard’s Capital Guardians.
Proceeds from GOEF shirt sales are placed directly back into the GOE Future Eagles Scholarship Program. We invite you to help us honor airpower’s heritage and forge future aviation leaders through your purchase or individual donation. Please visit us at www.goefoundation.org to learn more.
