Members Only Royal Air Force T-Shirt
The Royal Air Force or RAF for short was founded on 1 April 1918, towards the end of the First World War by merging the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. The newly created RAF was the most powerful air force in the world on its creation, with over 20,000 aircraft and over 300,000 personnel. After the first World War the RAF took up the task of policing the British Empire from the air.
During the Second World War, it was responsible for the aerial defense of Great Britain, the strategic bombing campaign against Germany an tactical support to the British Army around the world. The RAF would conduct operations around the globe throughout World War II, but nowhere was its role more conspicuous than during the Battle of Britain. Later in the war, when Britain began going on the offensive, RAF Bomber Command was able to mount large-scale night raids, sometimes involving up to 1,000 air crafts. During the Cold War, the main role of the Raf was the defense of the continent of Europe against potential attacks by the Soviet Union not only with aerial patrols but also being an additional nuclear deterrent along with the United States.
Today, the Royal Air Force maintains an operational leading-edge technology fleet of various types of aircraft. This week's shirt features the original badge of the RAF along with the blueprint diagram of the Sopwith Camel Fighter Aircraft. One of the best known and successful British fighter aircraft of the Great War. Along with the image of the RAF Motto is imbued, "Through Adversity to the Stars!"
