If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha.
The Gurkha, known worldwide as among the most feared soldiers on the planet are easily identifiable by their long curved knives known as Khukuri.
While their lineage and reputation dates back to the 1814 Anglo-Nepalese War, their legacy both in the service of both England and India has elevated them to continuously higher levels of international respect in the military community.
In Afghanistan, that legacy continues. Recently, Acting Sergeant Dipprasad Pun was surrounded by over 100 Taliban. Alone and surrounded, Pun fired over 400 rounds of ammunition, threw 17 grenades, and detonated a mine, before using his machine gun tripod as a club to beat the remaining attackers. When the smoke cleared, Pun remained alive and over 30 Taliban had fallen to his hand.
He fought like a wild animal. He fought without fear. He fought like a Gurkha.
It is Better to Die than to Be a Coward.
